The Trammel Fossil Park in Sharonville, Ohio is a must-see for fossil hunters. This site is open year-round. Fossil hunting is permitted and you can keep what you find.
A hillside exposes multiple formations of upper Ordovician limestone and shale layers of the Cincinnatian Series. These layers are rich in fossil shells as much as 450 million years old.
Each formation on the hillside is labeled with the formation name. There is plenty of free parking. There is a pavilion near the parking area with excellent signs explaining what fossils you can find and how those fossils were formed.
The pavilion is in the shape of Cincinnati's Official City Fossil - the Edrioasteroid. This is an excellent place to learn about the fossils you find here.
Before this land was a fossil park, it was part of an industrial park when a layer of rare Edrioasteroids were found on the lot and uncovered by professionals with the University of Cincinnati and amateurs with the Dry Dredgers.
The Dry Dredgers helped create and maintain Trammel Fossil Park, along with the city of Sharonville. It was donated by R.L. Trammel Family in the spirit that it would be preserved and improved for educational purposes.
