Garr Hill
(Near Brookville Lake, Indiana on Indiana 101)
The weather was perfect for a field trip to Garr Hill on May 29. About 20 people were in attendance.
Among the finds, Gary Richter found a Flexicalymene trilobite and Charlotte Cox found numerous Cyclonema gastropods.
Articulate brachiopods found included Rafinesquina, Platystrophia, Rynchotrema, Onniella, Strophomena, Leptaena. The inarticulate brachiopod Petrocrania was found growing on Rafinesquina and other Petrocrania. Many massive Bryozoans were found. Assorted gastropods included Cyclonema.
David Sligar found a hugh unidentified gastropod (see picture below). Ron Fine had the best find of the trip. He found not one, but three beautifully preserved Conularia! (Pictured below). He also found some Sphenothallus of the ordinary variety. Actually, no Sphenothallus (tar spot) is ordinary. Bill Heimbrock found a Carneyella Edrioasteriod. (Pictured below).
We were also visited by the Barard Family from Layfayette, Indiana who heard about the field trip from a Dry Dredger member. They shared with us some very beautiful mineralized fossils from their area. We enjoyed "dry dredging" with them.
Here are some great pictures of the trip and what was found.
Pictures of the Trip
These photos were taken with Bill Heimbrock's camcorder.
Ron Fine found THREE conularids, all in excellent condition. The Conularia
were 2.75", 2.5"and 1.25"
long!
Photo compliments of Ron Fine.
David Sligar found this huge snail with more than a 2 inch diameter. Anyone know
what it is?

Bill Heimbrock found this Carneyella Edrioasteriod
living on a Rafinesquina ponderosa Brachiopod along side
several Petrocrania scabiosa that had Bryozoans growing on them.
