Annual Trip to the Penn Dixie Site, Buffalo, NY
Report by Dan Cooper
NEW PICTURES OF THIS TRIP FROM TOM BANTEL!
George G. and I arrived at the quarry Friday morning and began to remove burden from the layer. Jim C., Bob B., and Tom B. showed up later. By Friday evening we had an nice area uncovered.
Bob did some surface collecting (Above) but didn't find much (hard to find anything with your hands on your hips!).
It rained all day Saturday but we were still able to collect under a tarp. Sunday was much better but the hole filled with water very quickly (below).
Jerry Bastedo visited us and found a beautiful double which George took. All toll it was a fairly nice dig. I got maybe 10 nice trilobites (pics).
There were a lot of nice fossils including brachiopods...
horn corals....
and trilobites. I found 2 multiples (shown below), and a really nice prone one (also pictured below).
Jerry Bastedo was great. He let us in the quarry Friday and each morning. He does a great job promoting the quarry!!!
